Unfortunately, as it now comes to an end and we prepare for winter, we have those messy leaves to clean from our house gutters.<\/p>\n<p>And cleaning gutters means climbing ladders.<\/p>\n<p>Before you climb, take a few minutes to brush up on ladder safety. Our reinsurance company, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grinnellmutual.com\/content\/front-porch-blog\/Five-ways-to-use-your-ladder-safely\" target=\"_blank\">Grinnell Mutual<\/a>, offers several tips to reduce your chances of falling from a ladder.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Inspect the ladder.<\/strong>\u00a0Before using a ladder, inspect it to confirm it is in good working condition.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Secure the ladder.\u00a0<\/strong>Place the ladder on level ground and make sure the contact points\u2014floor, wall, etc.\u2014 are not slippery.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Follow the three point-of-contact rule.\u00a0<\/strong>When climbing, keep two hands and a foot (or two feet and a hand) on the rungs or side rails.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stay off of the top.\u00a0<\/strong>Always stay off the top two steps and platform of a step ladder.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do not overreach the ladder.\u00a0<\/strong>The user should keep his or her bellybutton between the side rails.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have any questions about maintaining your home for the upcoming winter, give <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forwardmutual.com\" target=\"_blank\">Forward Mutual<\/a> a call at 920-261-6616.
