Add to that a continuous fluctuation in temperatures and we have the potential for ice dams.<\/p>\n<p>Ice dams form when a buildup of ice and snow freeze at the end of the roof. This prevents melting snow from draining off\u00a0the rest of the roof. When\u00a0moisture backs up behind the dam, it can leak into the\u00a0house\u00a0and cause\u00a0damage to the roof, walls ceilings and insulation.<\/p>\n<p>Consider these helpful practices to keep your\u00a0roof and gutters free of ice dams.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inspect gutters, downspouts and scuppers for damage, blockages, vegetation and any other fault that would prevent their proper operation.
